This at-a-glance chart shows how to distinguish between the different types of cups of coffee you can order at a bar/restaurant, i.e. how the variations of quantities of coffee, water and milk/cream can produce surprisingly various flavours and textures. You may even want to experiment making these for yourself at home, and then chose a favourite.

After spending many years in popular coffee-drinking countries (6.5 years here in Spain, and all of my youth school holidays in Italy visiting my grandparents), I still hesitate when deciding which type of coffee to order in a bar/restaurant. My favourite tipples are Americano and Espresso. I’ve now printed out the above at-a-glance coffee types chart so that, over a period of time, it will be memorised and I will be able to amaze my friends with my expert knowledge on coffee ordering.
